i pulled my chrysler 904 tranny out of my 78 postal jeep(because it wouldnt move in any gear) and i discoverd the center is completly torn apart on the flexplate where the bolts mount. would this cause no movement.? its a 6 bolt flexplate, (sure it would but gotta ask)

Yes a broken flexplate can cause a no movement. The part still attached to he block can spin and not turn the transmission at all.

The last broken one I had would catch sometimes and move the truck (albeit very slowly), but it smelled hot.

When I removed the trans, the flexplate was busted. The center was loose all the way around and you could see the wear marks on both piece from spinning.
