Trick to installing gas shocks?

hey all, I installed a set of monroe gasmatic shocks on my truck today. However they were real difficult to compress to get the bottom bolt through, was able to do it with the help of my dad but I was just curious is there any trick to getting these to compress to make installation easier. Thanks.

Get a rope. Or some wire. Get someone to help you compress the shock, then tie it in the compressed position. Wrap a loop around the mounting part (like a necktie) on both ends, then mount the shock at the top, then cut the rope, being sure to get the bottom bolt into the hole as it passes it. If this fails, you may be able to finesse it with a jack.

Put the hard part in first, line up the compressed shock as best you can and cut the cord and hope you hit the hole. If not have fun.
