Triumph tr-3 worm box swap with rack and pinion

I have a triump tr-3 based rod which has terrible steering. I have a worm gear stearing box. The wheel turns about 2 inches before it will move a wheel. I would like to replace the whole unit with something that has a rack and pinion steering. In addition to rack and pinion, I would like to get power steering. The car is fitted with large tires up front which can be difficult to turn if you are not moving. To make matters more complex I have two universal joints in the steering column to fit around a 302 engine. I was thinking about getting the rack and pinion from a wheel base a little larger and having the ends chopped and resplined or drilled. That would get me closer, then I would probably want to take the same column out of that vehicle and find some universals and shafts that fit. Does this sound about right? Does anyone have any suggestions on a donor car? Where to get resonably priced length shafts and universal joints? I have a limited budget but want it to look nice. Thanks -Mike
