Over in England there was only two wheel manufacturers that made wheels and they were both under contract with the big automobile producers. If they sold wheels to any of the other car manufacturers they were under the risk of loosing their contract and possibly being sued. There was a loop hole in the contract that enabled them to sell shipments of three. So Morgan, designed his car around the wheels that he could obtain.

The three-wheeler came about because of Britain's taxation policy. For decades, a car with three wheels, and weighing less than 850 pounds, was taxed as a motorcycle at just 4 quid per year.
