Good answer Dave. Sorry i missed a day, but installing a new floor in the living room seemed to be more important to my continued living in peace and good health. It looks like there is an attempt to build a new course for the US grand Prix near Austin Texas. Ground was broke for a 3.2 mile course. We will see. The floor as it may be is yours Dave.

New Question

One upon a time, before race cars became high speed billboards wrapped in sponsors colors, Formula One cars were the colors of their country. Races were as much about national pride as about the car maker.

Italian cars were red, with Ferrari and Maserati wearing that color
French color was blue - French teams were easily identifiable by the bright blue
British Racing Green is not just a color - it symbolized the pride of a nation and many different British teams such as Lotus and BRM raced in Green.
(By the way - US colors are blue & white, Canadian colors are red & white)

Why was the Mercedes team silver?

Ok, I googled it but damn you learn stuff that way. Very interesting! They were painted silver because the early ones weren't even painted but left in bare metal (aluminum I assume) and the cars were nick named "Silver Arrow".

Very good (so far!) Why were they unpainted? (that is root of the "silver" German cars question.)

The cars were 1 kilo heavy, the white paint was scraped off the car for weight savings. Or so the rumor goes.

Exactly right! In the early days, suspension science was not exactly well-developed. "Road hugging weight" governed traction and there was a maximum weight that cars had to adhere to. Back in the 30's a German team showed up for one Grand Prix and was a couple of pounds over, even after all the lightening tricks they could think of, so they actually stripped off all the paint and made the weight limit. Up until then. the official German racing color was WHITE! OKAY, Blue, back to you!

Name the world's oldest continuously staged motorsport event still staged on its original course and where the event is held.

Indianapolis 500 but that is WAY too easy so I have to assume I'm wrong.

Brian

Edit: I just noticed "WORLD" event. Forget it, I don't have a clue. It was probably something like a chariot race that changed to motor power.
