They were considered a truck, and according to the rule book they could run that tranny, The guys were scamming the rule book. they ran I/SA.

35, Close enough for me, since I am relying on the memory of what I read in the sixties.

It was my understanding that it was an option actually offered in that body style. GM's reasoning was that the sedan delivery was meant as a commercial vehicle, and the stump-pulling low gear made sense as an optional transmission.
