Brian, here is a picture I found while looking around maybe it was a common "upgrade" for people to add the belvedere chrome to the cheaper model? Also I haven't found a picture of the aluminum steering obx, but I have found several threads talking about the "leaking aluminum box" on the 56. I still hate you LOL I have worn out three keyboards, two pair of contacts, and I have been banned from google.........

Here is a photo I just found on line with the power steering pump that the box uses that I posted the photo of. Found this under a 1955 Chrysler imperial search. I still only come up with one box on ebay that Carolina found. This must be a rare piece. But check out the power steering pump.

Looks a heck of a lot like the Chevy's of the same vintage don't it? I wonder who came first in development, who copied whom?

I looked at one of these every day for a few years parked in my brothers shop. It's a shame he didn't build it, would have been cool to drive everyday.

In reference to the mystery Power Steering Gear Box, it was not a one year only part. This type of box was called Go-Axial Power Steering and was user through out the Chrysler, Plymouth DeSoto and Dodge lines. I found references from 54-57.
Here's a link to a service manual on its overhaul procedures. This s for a 1955 Chrysler Imperial.

That is mounted on the back of the pump, just as GM did. Here is an AC Delco generator/power steering pump from a 1957 Chevy.
