The numbers dony change ,the ribbon changes color at 120 mph ,the black starts at o then keeps going so the right side of speedometer would be red left side would be black ,so if you were ounning 140 the black would be showing 20 --120 red 20 black _140 ,i dont know why 199 instead of 240 ,he didnt say,or didnt know.

Ohhhhhhh, I guess the only way you can find out is to hit 121? LOL sounds like a project I would have been all to happy to do when I was 18, not so much now!

When I think of the times I have seen a speedometer PEGGED it blows me away! Frightening actually!

How about another dash question? How about this oddity, what American made car had it's speedometer backwards? It read backwards, and you viewed it thru a mirror that turned it around for you to read it?

Geeez, yes 1960 Buick. The speedo is back wards and you are actually looking at a mirror image of the speedo. It had a thumb knob on each side that you turn to change the angle of the speedo so if you are 4'5" or 6'8" you get a straight shot of the speedo.

It's your floor.

If its a VW - the earlier ones did NOT even have the gas gauge - when you ran out you hit a little lever on the floor and switched to a different fuel feed from the very bottom the tank - like a motorcycle "reserve". Trouble was some folks forgot to flip it back when they fueled up and the next time they ran out - they REALLY ran out! However, since that one is a Smiths ga, I'm thinking its NOT a Veedub as theirs were VDO as I recall.

Police cars have special speedo's. I had a 62 Buick Special with a 401 in it. Buick didn't put that engine in that car until 63. Every time I bought a part for it it was always wrong and always undersized. Wrong bearings, wrong head set and so on. It also had a speedo that went to 140 mph. Light green with white top. Origional paint. One day I was cleaning the dash and was in a position where I could look down to the bottom edge of the speedo. It had the word police on it. Everything made sense then It was built with the Police package on it. I bought it from the origional owner and he had no clue. Big engine, big brakes, big rear end. The speedo on your mystery car wasn't available to the public.

The second needle was a speed reminder. You set it to your max speed and when you exceeded it a buzzer would sound. Had one of those on a 65 Wildcat I owned.

They never put a 401 in one that I know of until 65, my Gran Sport, it wasn't a "Special" of course it was a Skylark, but same body.

On the 62, I do not believe a 401 would even fit in there, the car was a uni-body made for the 215 aluminum block. The only thing I can think of is yours had a 300, which was basically an aluminum block cast in iron and a bit bigger. But I have been a Buick nut for ever owned many of them as well as my brother and father and sister, we have all had a number of them from the 60's. I have never heard of a 401 (completely different motor than the 215-300-340) or any other Buick V8 in one of those cars so it was likely a 300, or I am totally wrong and that was the rare baby I have never heard of.
