That's the Thomas flyer on the left which won the New York to Paris race I believe, the other I don't know. Can we say they both completed the race at some point coming in first and second?

The one on right is indeed the Thomas Flyer that won "The Great Race" New York to Paris in 1908.
The second car and the Flyer didn't compete together.
What is it and what did it do?

Ok, it's past 24 hours and I will reveal the answer being I googled it, it's the 1908 Vanderbuilt cup winner, the first American car to win it. It's a Locomobile.

The chrome on the door is like a 59 chevy biscane but I don't remember a hardtop in the biscane just the belair and impala ,

Yep you guys got it but it will bolt onto another GM car too...after you fill a few bolt holes. This has got to be one of the most creative uses of a part ever.

This car was in the garage of the guy my son got his Pinto engine from. And it's all original! What a beautiful car! The seats do look like they have been re-done though. Anyway though, it was largely original.
