That is the 1955 Cadillac LaSalle ll Hardtop Sedan Concept. Now part of Joe Bortz collection. It featured a Double OH Cam Aluminum V-6 engine and drum brakes that were part of the wheels. Independent suspension.
Pretty Neat!

I think BB already got it, but if there was such a thing as a '57 Stutz Blackhawk, it would probably look like that.

Here's a '72 Stutz Blackhawk:

In 1955 Ford introduced the new Thunderbird. What was different between the Ford-O-Matic transmission in the 55 Bird and the 56 bird?

I'm going to make an educated guess and say it was the length of the case, although cars with the 272 2bbl engine came with the short case through 1957

The 56 had another gear ,you could start in drive get it rolling pull it down to lo and it would change another gear ,in the Fairlane I am guessing the tbird was the same .I never owned one.

I am thinking the 56 went to liquid cooled instead of air cooled but I would not give any odds on being right.

John

PS Dad had a 55 Fairlane. That low gear shift trick was pretty cool.

V-8s had the liquid-cooled tranny, while the sixes were air-cooled; although I don't know what the time frame was

Yep. The 55 was air cooled and the 56 was water cooled. You could speed shift those old Fordo's pretty quickly.
