I could see designing a hotrod around the use of that dash. When I was a munchkin, my neighbor was a Chrysler New Yorker guy - had a new one every year or two and I remember those dashes from his cars!

That was the era when cars were works of art for us to lust after now

It's been done: Dave Crook 1947 Ford convertible album | Rik Hoving | Custom Car Photo Archive | Fotki.com, photo and video sharing made easy.

I remember the same thing. We had a family friend with one and with me sitting on his lap he let me drive when I was about 5. I remember driving on a main road here in town over the freeway overpass!

Thanks for finding this car. I had remembered it from a Street Rodder Mag about ten years ago but for the life of me could not remember the year of the car, Take a look at the skirts on the front of the vehicle. They lift and open then the steering wheel turns. The use of that speedo was excellent!

All I remembered for sure was that it was a mid-40's Ford (I was thinking it was a coupe) built by Dave Crook - Old timers might remember his wild '58 Pontiac from the early-60's - But it was enough

The Pontiac

Since no one asked a question I'll do so.
What does this vehicle (Tatra T77) and this man ( Ferdinand Porsche) have in common?
Ya might have to hunt this one down but the answer is kind of neat!

No that's not it. Dave got part of it in a PM he sent me. The correct answer is quite amazing.
Not a lot of Tatra's in the states. The only one's I have personally seen have been in museums. If you look at the car you can see both aerodynamics and art deco. I love this kind of styling.
As a side note, Tatra is still a viable company producing trucks and vans.

I made a guess and it turns out I'm right, but I used Google to make sure. Porsche saw the Tatra design before creating the now famous Beetle [URL="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tatra_97"].
Apparently he admitted it, and VW eventually settled a lawsuit -- around 30 years later!

There you go! It appeared the Mr. Porsche swiped more than just the exterior design. The Tatra had a rear engine, rear independent suspension, and a air cooled four cylinder engine. Tatra sued and the lawsuit was settled in the 60's with Volkswagen paying 300,000 Deutsche Marks.

Tatras, Audi and Porsche were never built in Wolfsburg, only Volkswagens are built there.

I guess it's up to me to come up with a question now...

Let's see, what was introduced as a competitor to the DeTomaso Pantera but never made it into production?

"Competitor to the Pantera"

Oh crap - I remember that - I recall reading about it in Car & Driver or Road & Track or one of those "flat cap and driving gloves" magazines at the time

Now if only I could recall the name

Seems memory really IS the second thing to go.....
