Lincolns

Actually the 58-60 was the longest American Car. The ones you are talking
about were the next generation- big but not quite as big. 58-60 were
also unibody construction. Jim

You know guys, those weights have been used on many cars over the years and STILL to this day are on almost every Japanese car I can think of. They have them in bumpers, or frame rails. They will look like a "motor mount" with a chunk metal vulcanized to bracket and simply bolted inside of a bumper reinforcement.

This is not a question because I don't have the floor, but I have to ask, what "Pony car" had them on all four corners?

Brian

Pony car weights

I'm gonna with the 'Cuda on that one - even tho "Muskratz" had some "issues", I don't recall seeing weights on 'em, and my '69 Camaro didn't have 'em (as I recall anyway - and I had gone thru that sucker everywhere to find places to take OFF weight (drag car) but I have never owned a Mopar ponycar. (maybe Cougar - to enhance the ride etc?)

Anyway

When I jumped in with my Volvo question, I had usurped the turn of '34 Fords (Joel) to ask us a question, so, I will defer to him - its really his turn!

I always figured the first automobile race happened about five minutes after the second car was built.

First Race

I seem to recall that it was a race from one city to another - maybe I am just developing some leaks in the ol' grey matter, but Philladelphia to New York, or something similar, in the 1890's and took several days to complete. (guess this isn't much in way of being a clear, definitive answer, but it's all I've got right now unless I do some google-type research)

First Engine

The first functional gasoline - powered internal combustion engine is generally credited to Gottlieb Daimler, who then made the first car in 1887/8. there had been other attempts previously, but he had made one major breakthrough, coming up with the one "missing piece" from all previous attempts.

What was his discovery/invention and what inspired it?
