Ok here it is
Yes those are Cale Yarborough and Donnie Allison's car from the 1979 Daytona 500. The first televised complete NASCAR race.It snowed heavily in the Eastern part of the U.S. assuring a larger audience than anticipated. Yarborough and the "Alabama Boys"(the Allisons) had always disliked each other. Cale and Donnie smacked each other early in the race and repairs cost them a couple of laps. They both fought thier way back up front and by the end both of them and King Richard were battling for the lead. On the last lap Yarborough went to pass Allison and they tangled with each other and put themselves out of the race. Petty won. Yarborough and Allison had words and it lead to a fist fight--on national television--on the first televised NASCAR race. The audience loved it! Many commentators ,sports columnists, ,the NASCAR Museum, and millions of now fans have said that that fight on the track directly contributed to the popularity NASCAR now has. Nothing could have caught the nations attention better than two driver whacking each other with their helmets and as Yarborough has said over the years " Donnie kept beating his nose on my fist"!
NASCAR thought it so important that the enshrined the two cars and tell the story to the public.
Oh yeah, After the race Bill France (I think Jr.) daie it was a disgrace --as he and his Dad grinned and rubbed their hands together. Racin'!!
