We started a trivia thread over at another forum and it has been a lot of fun.
Here are the ground rules. It starts with one question. The first reply with the right answer gets the floor for a new question. It continues like that unless, A) the person who has the floor doesn't ask a new question, or B) no one gets the correct answer. In that case, the person with the floor asks a new question. No more than one question on the floor at a time, and discussion/clarification is welcome until the floor is taken over by a new question.
First question: In the 1952 Indy 500, what type of fuel was burned in the record-setting pole-position #28 car? Hint: it won pole position by a full 4 mph over the second-place Ferrari
Not sure but I don't think the heavy case came out until 58 or 59 to match the new FE engines they were made I think by Ford where early ford o matics were made by Borg Warner,to long abo cany remember details
The large case version was produced from 1958-65 and was only used in Lincolns, and in Mercuries, Thunderbirds, and Edsels equipped with the 430 Lincoln engine
They had nothing but trouble with the air cooled one in the Tbird as they often overheated and raised the interior temp quite a bit. My brother and I restored a 57 Bird for his wife MANY years ago (damn time flies) who still has it.
I had one in my 55 and never had a lick of problems with it. All the early T Birds were hot inside especially 55's. In 56 they added vent wings to the window frames and side vents to the fenders. The vent wings were the best interior cooling answer. They did more for interion cooling then the side vents. That being said I put air in mine in the sixty's. Cruise control also!
Here's one mainly for United kingdom members... What did the future Queen of England do during the second world war? and yes it has to do with automobiles
She did indeed drive truck as well as a multitude of other vehicles. her job was a driver in the motor pool. Your floor BB.:thumbup::thumbup:
On a GM product this item has a spific name. The Fisher Bros. named it such and made a big deal about in their bodies ventaltion system.
What is the proper name fot it?
Nope to both of them. Common names are vent wings, wind wings, side vents, vent window and more. But that ain't what Fisher Body calls them. They were involved in a big ad campaine in the 30's
Now they do it by having the window roll down a half inch when you pull on the handle, then roll up that half inch when you shut the door. I HATE IT, drives me crazy every time I go to open one of those doors, you think the door is going to open in one movement as you pull on the door handle. But NOOOOOO you pull on the door handle the window rolls down then the door opens, its' so damn stupid.
Could be because the 54 Belai he traded in on the 58 Ford pu had them ,he had to put aftermarket Chrome or S/S shields over the door of the new Ford truck
Well no more answers so I'll cough it up.
Fisher Body named that little gem the-----
Ventipane! Someone must stay up very late to dream up these wonderful names.
Somebody ask away.
