I have probably mentioned this a hundred times here because it was so amazing an event for me. 7-8 years ago I was working on a car and I found something that looked like this in the trunk.

It had a brass plaque on it with a dedication from president Truman to one of a few men who developed this "Proximity fuze". I knew a little bit about the fuze but here was this award to the maker! It stated something along the lines of this along with the atomic bomb being the two most important inventions in the world and that these two things won the war for America. I couldn't wait for the owner of the car to come pick it up so I could ask him about it. He told us it was presented to his father by the President himself! This amazing piece of history needed to be in a museum and it was in the trunk of a car, how sad.
