"Leak" is an understatement, more like pours. It is a THM200 in a 1986 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme behind a 307ci motor. The tranny was swapped in by the previous owner to replace the old one (don't know why). Transmission is a year old and the car sat for a year. Odometer says 98184 miles.
Symptoms:
When the car starts and is put in drive/reverse (does not leak in park unless it was previously running in drive/reverse) the leak starts as a slow drip, but after running for a while the leak turns into a steady stream ultimately leaving a completely clean dipstick. It does not leak heavily when the car is moving, but as soon as it's parked, all the fluid comes out. Also, the speedometer needle is nowhere to be found (stock Olds g-body speedo with no tach or other instruments).
From the looks of things, it seems like the front pump seal, but I'm wondering what others think it could be. Could the broken speedo be related to a leak this bad? Could the TCC solenoid be bad and allowing fluid to escape through the bellhousing?
If anyone can glean anything from it, here's a high-res image of the driver-side of the trans taken about 3 weeks after it's last leak: http://i27.tinypic.com/xdwi1c.jpg (front of trans to the left of image).
When I last drove it, I pressed the gas/brake down at the same time just to see, and a stream of white smoke shot out from the passenger side (just behind the front tire) caused by trans fluid splashing onto the exhaust (stain visible in picture). I appreciate anyone's thoughts on what the leak could be.
