Truck won't start unless I play with shifter- neutral relay switch bad?

Sometimes, ( more often than not ), my 39 Ford Panel will not start unless I either wiggle or hold the gearshift to the right in Park when I turn the key.

I have been told this is a neutral relay switch, apparently, to prevent the car from being started in gear.

Anyone ever have to replace one of these things? I assume not many, since I couldn't find squat in the search or Knowledge Base.

Depends on where the switch is..............some are on the column, some are right on the tranny, or even the shifter. If you have a GM column in it, its probably on the column.

You have to find it 1st.

Obviouslly, you don't have a stock steering column in it. You will have to find that out before we can help.

If it's a GM column, its a curved switch on the column under the dash. Has wires going to it.

Thanks- I'll check it out.

Not sure what kind of steering column it has. Was built in several shops around SoCal by previous owner.
