Is a True 1968 z 302 a large Journal ?
Ok I have stumbled across 2 302s which I know are pretty rare and hard to find and the guy who I found them from is giving me one for free, I want to use just the block and build it to a 383, I know the 302 is a 327 block with a 283 crank but my question is, Is it a Large journal ?. Can I use this block to be a 383 ? thanks
by the way the codes were Block 3914678 and I could not find the heads true identity but the code is 3917298 thanks cya later |

If it is a real one (which it is probably not) sell that stuff on ebay and get about 5,000 for it.

The 302 for 1967 was a small journal crank. They made only 602 of these units. The crank is identified by a wide V notch on the flywheel flange. The 68 and 69 302's used the large journal crank. cast #3941178 (Late) and 3279 (early), also ID'd by the V notch. If the notch is not there, it's not a 302 crank. The block casting you have was also used for the 67 large journal 327 and 350. I would look everything over good for the casting DATES as well as numbers, and find out just exactly what you have before you ruin good vintage parts for a 383. 350 blocks are a dime a dozen.

Like stated before they only made 602 of these, so the odds of you having one is about one in a billion. However if you got that lucky and the guy doesn't know what he has that is his problem.
You would definately have the only one on ebay so I think you would generate a lot of interest and the bidding would drive the price way up there. |

Before I would believe its a 302 and some fool is giving them away, I would want to see the suffix code. It is located on the front passengers deck on the block. Give us the code and we will tell you what you have.

302 ?
Well it would be nice knowing what it is but I think I might win either way, lol one possible way is I hvae a true 302 and the other possible way is I get to put my motor back together with the block if its not a 302
