trunk rubber seal

Im putting a new seal in trunk having a hard time removing old rubber someone used a black gasket glue to put it down its comming out in pieces,is there a solvent or anything i can use to dissolve and lift the old rubber.Anyone with advise would be greatly appreciated thanks

3M makes an excellent weatherstrip adhesive remover, it is availiable at better auto parts and paint supply stores. Do not be tempted to use lacquer thinner, it could damage your paint.
