trying to figure out what year my motor might be

i bought a rebuilt motor from a guy and he told me it was a 96 vortec in the process or putting on a new intake and water pump (running it carbuerated) i found out that those 96 vortec parts didnt fit my original intake off my older motor that came with my truck an eldelbrock torquer two fit better except the middle two bolts they went in at an angle so i drilled it out to make it work and the same with the water pump was the same off my older motor has 4 bolts i dont know the year of the other motor as it also came in a trade/buy but dont believe its a vortec any ideas? it also has a one peice rear seal

Vortec heads have 8 intake bolts that are straight up.
Older heads are 12 bolt intake pattern. TBI heads are 12 bolt with the center 4 bolts at a different angle. TBI heads are the worst flowing in small block history.

alright well thank you i wish i knew what to think about the whole motor i was just going mostly off what the guy said he told me it has a crane energizer cam and keith black hypueretic pistons im not sure about either of those as i dont have the money and really the place or time to tear it back down and find out i know its a 5.7 liter and i have to drop the pan again so il look for any kb or other markings on the skirts in the process of setting it on tdc and running a screwdriver over the top of the piston it feels like dome top but as ive found could be anything thanks again

heads

another question eventually i want this truck to be a weekend driver or a local show truck but for now it is going to have to get me to school and work if i have tbi heads would it be worth changing them to vortec or anyother right now without seriously dropping gas mileage or should i leave them as far as i know it is standard bore the only might be upgrades is pistons and a slightly higher torque cam
