Tunnel Ram

I have a s10 truck that i have restored with a small block 355. Has anyone had any experience with a good cam to run with a tunnel ram intake setup. This is mainly a show truck so would like that turn your head sound.Any suggestions?

The carb has little to do with how it`ll sound, it`s job is to deliver the air/fuel mixture, it don`t know or care what size the engine is. The cam is what plays the role in the lopey idle sound. You can have a stock 305 with a comp cams 268H cam and it`ll lope, sound mean as if it`ll take anything, but likely won`t take a stock 350. The same cam will also lope in a 350, in a 400 it`ll idle smooth. You could stick a tunnel ram on a stock small block as long as the carbs were in the 390 range, with the correct tuning it wouldn`t lope. In the past I`ve seen stock engines with a knocked off exhaust that loped like it had a huge cam.

Hunt Well the cam I picked for my lil 350 street tunnel ram project was a Isky Z-27 street and strip tight lash solid cam. The part number is 201027
specs are 282-282 adv dur 247-247 @.050" .507".507" .018" lash.
Lock out your distributor timing for full advance at idle (36deg).
likes 10:1 cr and a 10" 3500 stall. carbs will need a low value power valve or step spring. probabily 4.5"
Will have a cool sounding hot rod idle without getting too carried away.
With very good torque and throttle response. The valve lift is modest so a Lunati 73943 valve spring is fine.

The LSA is 108 degrees. I degreed this cam in my 350 using a stock type timing chain and gear set after determining true tdc and the cam was 4deg advanced. (104 intake c/L) - just right. You can buy this cam from summit. Any machine shop that deals with MotorState will get it for ya.
