tunning my 78 460/429 dove heads
at what dgr should i set the timming? i've got it @ 20 adv now and experincing a ping on excel and it wants to diesel when i shut it down.

If you are talking 20 degrees initial timing, I'd say that's a little much. Around 8 would be better, at least a place to try and see if it likes it or not.
What is your idle speed? If you are dieseling after you shut off the key I would first suspect a higher idle than what it should be. Stock idle is around 700. Also, maybe check for vacuum leaks. Mm

My 79 460 calls for 14* from the factory. TRy that.
