turbo 350 detent cable replacement

How do I replace the detent cable on my turbo 350 transmission. Do I need to drop the transmission pan?

no you don't need to you can reconnect it through the hole in the case and then reattach it to the engine linkage

Thanks for the quick reply. One more question. How do I unhook the cable. The cable feels like it has tension on it. Is there a trick to releasing the tension and reconnecting the new cable?

Thanks

The cable is held in the tranny by a bolt if I remember right. It hooks to a loop inside, but the cable housing is held by a bolt or lever. Just pull on it and unhook it from the carb, and then detach it from the tranny.
