I have a 305 engine and a turbo 350 transmission. Engine seems to be fine. There is a squeaking and knocking noise near the torq converter area. Squeaks at idle in drive with rpms up squeaking goes away but knocking gets louder. In drive it hesitates to shift but still shifts. There is a slight wobble of converter at idle and when rpms are up. Im thinking a cracked flexplate or bad torq converter? but I have never heard this type of squeaking before? Any help would be great thanks.

Probably as stated the flexplate/converter you need to take a light and roll it over and check the flexplate for any cracks that you may be able to see. and see if the converter has came loose or something.JMO you might even have to take it out and check it to be for sure, any leaks ? could be the front pump knocking/bearing bad. JMO

Two guesses

First the obvious one ......Are the converter bolts tight?

Second... Have you visually inspected to see one of the welded on balancing weights has been slung off?

No leaks. Converter bolts still tight. Didn't see any cracks or anything. This evening I took off converter bolts pushed torq converter back and started engine. Engine started up great with no sounds. I turned converter by hand and it makes a clicking sound. Im going to drop trans to get converter off. Is there a way to test a converter or should I just get a new one. Any suggestions would be great.
