turbo 350 trans mods for 1/4 mile dirt track ?

I am racing on a 1/4 mile dirt track and our rules require a turbo 350 trans with 3 forward gears and reverse. What i would like to do is remove 2nd gear and just have first and third. When the shifter was in second gear it could just default to 1st or third, that wouldnt matter just as long as it went forward. But i would like it to lock up in third direct 1:1 as to be able to use engine braking in the corners ect. can any or all of this be done?

Turbo 350

I ran dirt track 1/4 mile years ago,I can't see the logic in what you want do do ,the gear spread from 1st to 3rd would make it fall on its face. What worked for us was starting off in first and leaving it in 2nd the whole race to take advantage of engine braking going into the corner and the tighter gears torque increase to pull you out of the corner and into the straights, use a Performance Trans-Go shift kit so it will allow it to hold in any gear like a manual valve body.

agreed! Way to steep of gear ratio difference and the engine braking is nice

The logic is this. I have a nine inch rear with a 6.20 gear. i am in 3rd gear all the time anyway. My rpms are right where i need them and everything works fine in a regular th350. But i would like 3rd to stay locked in all the time like a manual, for engine breaking in the corners, and eliminate weight and uneeded rotating elements from the trans. They do look to make sure you have a real torq converter, and if the trans is shifted 3 times in goes into a gear. I thought i remembered someone building a powerglide in a th350 case once and was trying to get more info on it.

Sounds to me like a manual valve body would do what you need to do..
