Post Turbo 350,Turbo 400,700R4,Or Muncie 4 Speed

Which one of these transmissions are best? The car that I'm looking at has a 700R4 in it at the moment, which I'm not a big fan of.I want either a T-350,T-400,or a Muncie Rock Crusher 4 Speed.I plan on running a 350 engine with no more than 500 horsepower. Not even that much actually.Any suggestions are appreciated!

Jacob

I believe that most knowledgeable transmission folks will sgree that the 400 Turbo is the strongest of the General Motors automatics you mentioned.

The Turbo 350 is a lighter duty GM version of the 400 and as such....it TAKES less horsepower to turn and is considered 'more suitable' by some and fits in places the Turbo 400 will not.

I would keep the 700R4 if it is in good working order. The best 1st gear ratio (3.06), a overdrive ratio of 30% and strong enough for what your goals are.

Not all Muncies are the fabled ' ROCK CRUSHER'. I had one in my 1970 Chevelle 454-450 HorsePower LS6. They are very noisy. Good for only qne thing......drag racing IMHO.

As for the Best....you must decide whats best for you and your application.......

Thanks Deuce.I will probably end up going with a T-350 and use the boot that I hope to get off the 700R4 for other parts for my rod.
