turbo 400-79 trans am installation
I've decided to go with a 400 auto behind my big block chevy. My question is that its going into a 79 trans am that had a factory turbo 350. Can I use the 350 crossmember and maybe just slide it back or forward. Is the 400 the same length. Also the tranny came with the 400 yoke to. Can I put this yoke on my original driveline and go or do i have to shorten or get a new driveline? The 400 is setup up with a manual valvebody and has the low first gear and so on. Also with the 717 lift cam I need to run a 3500 stall. What will happen if I'm running down the freeway at 3000 rpm? New to auto's so need some good reliable info. Thanks
The crossmember will need to be slide back & the trans mount pad may need to be modified.
The 500rpm difference in rated stall shouldn't be a problem. Always run an extra trans cooler.
thanks for the info but im not sure about an extra trans cooler? Another one aside from the one in the radiator? The yoke is for this 400 and it all came out of a 68 camaro. It wont hurt anything if the stall is 3500 and Im driving the freeway and im only turning 2500 rpm.
