Turbo 400 Long to short Tail

Hi... question for you experts.

I have a 70 Lemans sport convertible with a (1972) 350 / T350... and the trans finally went after all these years and 200+k. Yes this is my everyday driver...
I found a 1973 Catalina with next to no miles with a 400 / T400 Long tail.
I am going to pull the engine and trans from the Catalina and swing it into my lemans...
Question is... The T400 is a long tail, and I am wondering if I can unbolt the tail and install a short tail... I know the 70 Lemans / GTOs offered this engine trans combination, so finding a drive shaft should be easy, if luck will have it, the yoke from the Catalina, may just pop onto my existing driveshaft, and I will be back in business. Can anyone let me know about swapping the tails.. and driveshaft options..

Thanks in advance...
BTW, if anyone needs parts for a 2 door 73 catalina, let me know, the car is practically mint except for the front fender that lost the battle with a tree.

you must change the output shaft of the t-400 to a short shaft to match the short tail housing.

and with that change the t-400 is not the same length as the t-350 , so a drive shaft is needed to match the t-400 setup.

Crossmember may be a bit different for the t-400.

How complicated is it to change the output shaft and housing? Engines body I have no issues, Trans just intimidate me... Swaps are easy but clutch packs not my thing... Is it safe to assume, pull the long tail housing and remove the long shaft, insert short shaft and short tail housing????

-----
I will check on the donor car shaft, but since its a monster, I am guessing its longer... but ive been known to be wrong before...

Thank for the ideas... Keep them coming please....

Palu,
Changing the tailshaft requires complete disassembly of the trans.

You would want to replace the output, input seals, and filter while you had it apart. It wouldn't hurt to check the clutches too.

This may help but you will really need a tech manual too for specifics.
