Turbo 400 Manual valve body

Hello all
I am puting a turbo 400 in a T bucket I am building. I wanted a four speed but it is too tight for all the "stuff" required. So I was thinking of a manual valve body and have a few questions. Also the trans will be completly redone so any suggestions about anything special to do while it is apart would be great as well. I will not be doing the work and the guy I use is very good and may know everything that is advised here I'm just double checking.

1 What is the difference between forward and reverse shift patterns? And
which is the one I would need?
2 Will this produce too much extra heat? I am using a static (no fan) trans
cooler and a deep pan and the car is very light.
3. This will be a street car but not driven alot will there be any bad issues
with this set up. I called TCI and was told that other than having to
shift it was no big deal, I have seen differnt on this site.
4 And last, anything "to be sure I have done" while the trans is apart?

If you are street driving, use a forward pattern. They retain the decel circuits; this means they will hold when you decelerate. (Engine braking)
Reverse pattern valve bodies were designed for drag racing; that is where they belong.

NO, valve body design does not affect heat production in an automatic.
Your trans cooler will work great, esp. if it is rated for 20,000# or higher.

TCI was not wrong. If you select a froward manual valve body kit you will be fine. Be aware there are MANY valve body manufacturers. Some are active here.....

The best thing you can do from a hard parts standpoint is use a 34 element clutch drum (your builder will know) but it may not be necessary considering the chassis you are using. Consider horsepower & torque ratings and analyze how hard you will beating on this trans...
