turbo 400 question
I'm building an old Studebaker street rod with a turbo 400 tranny and ford 9" rear end. Both have a yoke with "U" bolts for the universal joints.
I need a slip on type spline on one end or the other right ? What is the easiest solution here? I have a turbo 350 trans in my garage and on it the yoke slips off to expose a splined shaft but not the turbo 400:confused: Thanks, Dean. |
Your turbo 400 came from a truck. You need a passenger car yoke. That allows the yoke to slide in/out during operation. There are at least two different spline internal designs. One uses an O ring on the inner trans spline and a corresponding relief in the yoke with a vent hole in yoke end. The other type uses a solid plug in the end of yoke and no O ring in the trans. Mix em up and you get leak and/or spline travel issues.
