Turbo 400 rebuild for a blower motor

I want to get my Turbo 400 tranny rebuilt , to go behind a 468 blown BBC ,, from reading some of these posts,, there seems to be some very talented tranny people here,, The car it is going in is a 48 Anglia , The motor is a 468 BBC, full roller, I'm guessing about 500 or so H/p maybe more,, I don't plan on racing the car,, but definitely smoke a few tires,, so I would like for the tranny to stay together for a while,, any suggestions? I would like to take it to someone and have some idea of what it needs,,,, instead of leaving it up to them,, any help will be greatly appreciated,,, Thanks Bill

T400 is a very tough transmission IMO. Rebuilt to stock specs/parts with a shift improvment kit should be fine for your HP level with no problem. If you know someone/someplace that will tear it down while you watch, that's the only way to be sure you're buying only what you need. Otherwise, they can/will switch good parts for bad and sell you things you don't need. Stay as far away from AAMCO as possible. Learn the difference between good parts and bad so you'll know what you need/don't need. As a minimum, expect bushings, oil sealing rings (steel, not Teflon) gasket set, seals, clutches, modulator & filter. May also need steels, band/bands and hard parts like pump body, drum/drums. Of course 11-12 quarts of quality trans. fluid if conv. dry.
Get converter professionally flushed or replace it if you have significant amounts of metal in the pan.

Buy a good how to rebuild book and rebuild it yourself, it's not that hard. Keep everything as grit/lint free as possible. T400 one of the easiest to build. The only special tool needed is one to compress drum for dis-assembly. Even that can be done with two people instead of the tool. To align the pump, flip pump over and use the case, tighten to spec.

Good luck
