Post turbo 400 with transfer case to 700-r4

I have a 89 chev pu with a 454 and turbo 400 trans. the rear end gears are 4:10. I would like to swap the 400 for a 700-r4. will the original transfercase bolt to the 700-r4.

Razzle,
This ain't the gospel, but I think I'm pretty close here. The 700 and 400 CASES are almost identical length. Depending on what TC you have, I'd bet they'd swap IF you change the adapter housing AND the front input shaft on the TC (they're different size splines, and you'll hafta split the transfer to change the shaft). The input shaft goes for something like 175$ list, don't know about the adapter. I'd SUSPECT the driveshafts will still bolt up.

i have never seen an adapter for a 700r to a 400 transfer case, 400's are longer and have a different output spline on 4wd,you would have to move the crossmember and redo the driveshafts. why would anyone want to trade a heavy duty 400 trans with a p.o.s 700r? especially behind a big block. the gas mileage savings would be eaten up by the trans repairs!
