Yes you can turbo it since that same motor was used in the svo's and turbo coupes. It would be easier to swap in a complete turbo motor if you could find one since the n/a 2.3's didnt have the same internals as the ones that were meant for turbo's.

Check this out TBirb turbo conversion
For a different vehicle, but the info applies as they are replacing regular 2.3's with turbo 2.3's. Some good reading.here

look up "merkur XR4ti" hey i did it for you already, click here

samne thing as a SVO but cooler looking in my opinion. I wouldn't mind one with a 5-speed, but I'll pass on the 3-speed autobox.

wise choice the 5 speed had critical upgrades to that 4 banger. priority one is that cam and springs.

the xr4ti we had in high school was fun. it was loaded but every week or so a sensor would go out. nothing major just the onboard compurter things. like the washer warning light.

a little info my frinds 302 tbird with bolt-ons made 180 hp at the wheels. the xr4 made 200.

im hoping my 400 will hit 375 at the wheels. we will see.

if you want more, just add boost. And soon better internals and exhaust and intake of course.

Funny this should come up! I bought a "well used" XR4ti w/ five speed for my next hot rod project. Will go in a 62 Rambler American that will have the top cut off, doors welded shut and filled (and shaved, naturally), and sectioned down 3-4". Plan on using the IRS also.
