Ok as far as I can tell everything is wired right points are set right firing order correct carb came off another running motor coil is new plugs are new spark is good ( bright blue) timing is close enough to at least get it to half *** sputter took the ignitions switch out of play and dame thing I've gone through everything and can't seem to figure it out turns over great fires once and then nothing????

Sounds like you need a new Ignition switch JMO but what exactly are you working on anyway ?

1966 chevy impala original 327powerglide that's what I thought too but I hotwired it and same thing thinking I might have a broken wire some where?

These are wired with 2 Hot wires to the Coil if you're still using the Points Distributor. One 12V+ from the Starter and one Resistor wire from Ignition Switch with about 9V+.
If the Switch or Resistor wire is bad it will cause this.

X2 on the bad ignition resistor or wire. To test, jump a wire from your batt+ to the coil + and crank it up. If it keeps running, as I suspect, it's a bad resistor circuit. Don't let it run too long as this is hard on the breaker points.... Oh, and to kill it, you have to remove the jumper wire.

Most system by-pass the ignition resistor when starting to give full load. then goes to the resistance system when the starter key comes back to ignition position. The problem is probably in the resistor circuit or not wired correctly at the switch

X5 on the resistor wire. I had exactly this problem on a 68 442. ALL GM points distributors are wired this way.
