Born and raised in N.C. and yes there is a law requiring the use of turn signals. We were taught to signal 300 ft. before you turn. But I know what you mean, especially when changing lanes in the interstate. I guess it comes from most of N.C. having been rural for so long and you know tractors and mules don't have blinkers. I found it interesting when vacationing in India a couple of years ago that they are required to use hand signals during daylight hours and blinkers at night. But the passenger is somewhat of a co-pilot and does the hand signal out the right side of the vehicle.

njbloodline, as a Tar Heel, I can assume you took a test to get your NC driver's liscense. The dinky little hand book requires little effort to read enough to pass the test. In that little book, it says to signal your turns, either with lights or hand signals. In more detailed books, it explains that vehicles that did not have turn signals as original equipment, hand signals were required. These hand signals are the same nation wide. What you are addressing is an enforcement issue so whine to NCDOT if you are unhappy with that.
Unfortunately, there is no signal for a 180 degree turn for new residents not happy to be here. A side note, more than 50% of cackalacy residents were not born here. Mighty Mouse, our tractors now have turn signals, thanks to OSHA, and the mule drawn carts and wagons must display the orange and yellow triangle and the operator must use hand signals. Still better use caution, 'cause those ole cackalacy mules just go where they please anyway. Trees |

Its probably a law in every state to use your turn signal but from what I see only enforced on expressway for lane changes. I drive a lot of states and think people pretty much drive the same in all of them, some good some bad. I have seen cops use lane change on a 4 lane road as a reason to pull you over because that person did not use turn signal. They wanted an excuse! |

Amen brother. The Huntersville area has been one of the fastest growing areas in the nation for several years now. The locals [at least the few of us that have not taken the money and ran] have been threatening to change I-77 to 8 lanes north and a dirt road south. Trees; Being a Duke fan I don't use the Tarheel label, But I will take a drink of Wilks co. shine

Put that thing down!
The problem with signal lights is you need three arms. You can't signal, steer, drink coffee, smoke a cigarette, and talk on a cell phone all at the same time.

Maybe the reason no one signals on the highway is that the highway is so overcrowded now. If you signal, it lets the other drivers know to speed up and prevent you from changing into their lane.

I remember a while back i was towing my trailer and the signal lights didn't work so I was using hand signals. I patiently waited at an intersection to turn left with my arm out the window and a very angry lady waited behind me then eventually peeled out around me and gave me a signal of her own! I chuckeled as I thought she probably had no idea why I had my arm out the window. Signal lights are optional (not legally) everywhere these days.
