Turn signal switch?

I have a 1981 Chevy 1/2 ton pick-up. All stock. The turn signals won't work. All the bulbs are good. The flasher is good. The parking lights/tail lights work. The brake lights and emergency flashers work fine. I'm thinking that the turn signal switch needs to be replaced. Any ideas before I tackle the switch. By the way, there is no cruise or tilt.

Anyone have a step-by step?. I'm sure the steering wheel will have to come off, but pulling the wires thru doesn't look to be as easy as it use to be.

Thanks for your help guys (and girls).

Chris

Doc here,

How do you know the flasher is good?

Check the Fuse marked T/S, and replace the flasher first, The next step would be to inspect the column plug at the base of the Steering column for bent , dirty, corroded or dirty pins.

i wouldnt think it was the switch either, each TS bulb has its own contact in the switch and they wont all go out at the same time so at least 1/ some lights should go on. you said the brake lights work, those go through the TS switch too. try turning ign. on, step on the brake and move TS switch to left/ right, brake lights should go out left/ right.

oh, and there are TWO flashers, one for turn sigs and one for emergency flash. check to make sure you are looking at the right one. emergency flasher works, try swaping the 2 flashers.
