U-joint question.......

I am replacing the u-joint in a drive shaft from a 68 firebird with an auto and the original u-joint has a hidden groove on each cap with plastic(?) injected in it to hold the u-joint in place.
Anyway, my question is....will a replacement u-joint use clips on the inside of the yolk flanges to hold the joint in place instead of the injected plastic?
Any thoughts or comments will be greatly appreciated!!

yes, also remember to heat the caps where the plastic is or you will never get them out.

u-joint question......

Yes it will have new clips to hold it in place.

We sometimes use a torch to heat plastic up,of course be careful if you do this.

In fact, melting the plastic is about the only way this u-joint will come out many times. Good luck!

Thanks very much Barny and Briscoe for your response! I hear ya about heating the caps up. I tried for a long time with no luck until I did heat them up and then the plastic came oozing out of the little hole sorta like the little firework "snakes" we used to buy for a nickle when we were kids, hehehe.
