I remember working on those cars when they were new. How about the "Omni"?

Or the Horizon I remember when these came out in 1978. They were literally regarded as what saved Chrysler! They sold ZILLIONS of them. I was working for my sister who had a detail/body shop doing work for a couple of big dealers. We would have thirty or forty of these cars on the lot at any one time. The ONLY difference between the Dodge Omni and the Plymouth Horizon was the emblems and the grille, that was it. Even the horn button had a generic looking emblem on it and they both shared the same one.
I am not making this up, we got one in one day that had BOTH Horizon AND Omni emblems on it!!!! LOLOL

Back in '61 the Ex-wiffy and I were coming back from an all night fishing trip off the Texas City Dyke and she rolled one of these over 7 times. She was thrown out of the car and it rolled over her. I stayed inside and only received some bruises and abrasions on my shoulders. She, however, received at major break in her right femur and her right foot was laying on the back of her head when I got to her. The wreck also broke her back and knocked out her front teeth. She was in traction for 19 weeks and they finally put a pin in her leg to correct the broken femur. The back healed by itself and she suffered from major dental problems for the next 20 years or so.

Maybe that has something to do with me thinking this car is "Double FUGLY"

We owned one of each (omni and the horizon). Little 2.2 liter four banger and a 5 speed, great cars. I played string bass in college and high school, and could fold down the rear seat and put the whole 6' instrument in the car.

Ugly, cheap cars, but they lasted and got great mileage!

there is a 1959 isetta running around in tacoma that the dude removed the one wheel in the back and put a 1900cc built to the bone VW motor and transaxle in, the car has to have wheelie bars to keep it from going over backwards when he tromps the loud pedal, l dig the 12 inch wide rear tires and way this thing carries the front end for blocks. l have seen him do that on a long sraight road.

Just for the sake of accuracy, the BMW Isetta had two rear wheels ... they were just mounted real close together.

Just sayin' .....

We had 78 and 83 Horizons back then. I agree with you about the room. I had a double bass 8 piece drum set and could haul it around.

Good motors. Didn't even have to plug it in in winter. It would fire right up. I drove the 78 to the grave. It caught on fire at a gas station. Lucky we were able to put it out before it got out of hand.
