Hey but don't let body shops tell you what you're paying. If you prep the car 100% it shouldn't cost you more than 1 grand no matter what base and clear you want.
it will be fast without the fiberglass another car with a very similar combo has gone 9.17 @ 145+ in the 1/4 full street car all steel. my combo is slightly better( better heads and larger turbos) so i should be really close to that once i get the car dialed in

all the fiberglass will just make it eeasier

the main reason for the additional cost on my paint job is the airbrushing and flames along with the 2 tone paint job

#2 i dont care if it takes me 3 weeks to restrip the car for my blue and silver paint job down the road, a year of decent looking black paint vs primer spots/bondo spots and fadded paint is well worth it to me, besdies when the car is doing 180+mph across the salt flats or 135+ down the 1/4 mile noone will be close enough to see its rusto paint.
#3 + i took the money i had for the car to be sprayed withthe blue and silver summit paint+ the airbrush job and spent it on a 4l80 with transbrake and dana 60 rear for the car , and some various saftey equipment i need to pass tech at the racetrack which wa smor eimportant then spending the money on a GOOD paint job with GOOD paint

im well aware of what will happen with the rustoleum but what i need it for its just fine, im one of those ppl that will wash the car every week and wax it once a month so im not really worried about it fadding it will be cared for until i stripp it off in about a year to have real autop paint applied
I moved this to Basics. Hindsight, I screwed up, it should be in the lounge, it has no technical merit and is argumentative. However, I was told not to dump it, like I wanted to. There are no questions asked, no questions answered and from the conversing we have been doing in the Mods forum over this thread and a few others, I will seek to put this thread into the Lounge. Here is Rustoleum n a nutshell: http://www.crankshaftcoalition.com/w..._job#Rustoleum

My God man. I thought you did this to a little dumper, not a super car...

Well what I said before is still valid, the more you make your self apart of the paint job the more you will save.

In my opinion I like your car the way it is. I love the sleeper look. I always thought a cool race car idea would be to strip the interior, custom dash and then paint every single spec of the car in black Mercedes paint. Sand everything flat then spray 3 more coats of clear on it and polish that all up.
You would win all your races on sunny days because you'd be blinding everyone.

But you did engine work and turbo charged? That sounds like an interesting bit of information.
I mean I haven't seen too many nothing special cars that use parachutes to stop.

car shouldnt need it to stop[ but its a rule requirement for the times im trying to run for day to day sriving boodst will be kept around 12psi at the track it will be cranked to around 22 psi and hit with a 2 stage nitrous system, 1st stage is 25 hp to get the car out of the hole and the second stage is an additional 75hp shot in high gear

the reason i say its nothing special is caus eits just a factory 0010 4 bolt block with a gm forged crank, decent rods and some speedpro forged pistons.

ontop of that is just a set of ported 882 heads and tpi intake

You should read my posts, talk to your paint supplier about cheap single stage paint.

well i got the car back up and running, and now that the weather is getting much nicer out im just about ready to finish painting the car

i havent touched the hood sinc ei put it back on the car its been rained on snowed on, covered with dirt and dust.
i never washed it, never put wax on it or buffed it out and it still looks like the day i put it on the car granted it was only what 2-3 months but it looks promising.

ill keep this updated as i go
