Under Carpet

I ripped the carptet out of my torino and underneath i found all these black tar like sheets that are attached to the floor, im guessin they are only for like heat resistance or something. Can anyone tell me what they are and if they are really necesarry to have if just using the car in the summer for shows and driving once and awhile?

These are placed for noise and panel movement, if you leave them out sometimes you will experience panel "drumming" at certain speeds , or the car will have a tin can sound to it.

That stuff is like a bad 70's version of dynamat. I yanked every piece ot of my firebird and will replace it with the good stuff. Dynamat isn't too expensive,, and prolly works better than the stock mess in there now.
