unk problem

Ok i have an 85 Z28 with 383 TH350 3.73posi after driving to work a few days ago.. when i got there and came backto my car about and hour later i started it and it started to make this tapping sound... well i started checking everything and the only thing i saw that was bad was i was a little low on oil.. this tapping sounds like it would be lifters or push rods.. maybe a valve.... well later on i added some oil and started to drive home it was still tapping.. and about 4 miles down the road it felt like my tranny was slipping i was driving normally and it would rev up and then kick back into gear i puled off and shut it down and waited a while and started up again and it wouldn't come out of park when i went to shift.. now the tranny is rebuilt with everythign meant to hold this engine.. it only has 4k on it and the fluid is a good red color and full and i tried to start it upagain today and now it's got more of a thump to it, any help is appreciated

Your post does not give much for us to use for a diagnose of the problem

Trannys do not generally "tap" or Thump unless parts are hitting each other.

I do not fully understand your post.... you had troubles with this tranny?

Then the tranny was completely rebuilt and now more troubles?

ok sorry i was exteremly pissed off and at a loss as of what to do at the time.. i'm having the same problem as 83_monte_SS and going back through the old posts it sounds like the pump went out causing the TC to drain and not engage properly and it's not feeding any fluid

installing a 0-300 psi guage to the pressure port on the passenger side of the tranny will tell if the tranny is making enough psi to opertate.

There is a plug in the case near the modulator area on the passenger side , above the pan rail

yeah well the previous were grade 8 and well two of them had worked themselves loose somehow 2 sheared off and the last one holding it in was already backed out so the tranny was dissengaged and yes the flexplate was cracked and has been replaced

you broke grade 8 bolts???? that is unbelievable? is your tranny mount secure? I have seen a few people install a tranny with grade 5 and have similar problems but never with grade 8, who installed the tranny? is it possible the bolts were way over torqued?
