I just went and looked at a enigne at a local salvage yard. It was supposed to be a 350 sbc. It was like no block I have every seen before. On the back of the block it was round when the trans bolts up insteaed of the usually house shape. And the oil filter would be on the passenger side at like a 45 degree angle facing down. And it looked like the water pump had some sort of spacer between the pump and block. The guy wants $500 for it. He said it ran like a champ whenever it came out. What is it and is it worth $500. any help will be greatly appreciated.
It is definately a small block chevy. Guy said it was in a tow truck. It has the tranny bolts where they should be just the block is shaped funny around them. Couldnt find a block number. I am going to try and go back maybe tomorrow and try and get a block number. it had gm stamps on the intake. not real familar with small block chryslers but the distributer was in the back on the engine and i thought mopars and such where in the front. But i am not real sure. thanks guys.
Small block chryslers are set up just like gm's, the big block is where the dizzy's on the front at an angle. Look at the valve cover bolt pattern, chevys are the standard 4 bolt while chrysler is 2 on top, 3 on the bottom. Also if the block # ends in 273,318,340 or 360, you got a small block chrysler.
