Unusual rear end on an old Pontiac

I have a '72 Bonneville with a rear end I've never seen before. It has 10 bolts on the back cover, and the cover has a fill plug on it. Anybody know what this thing is?

If the backing plate has 2 half moon cut outs, 1 at 3 and 1 9 o'clock its a plain ol' Pontiac 10 bolt - 8.5 inch.

That's what it sounds like to me. Some of them had the fill plug on the cover since some applications were a bit tough to access the side plug. My 8.5" ten bolt has one in my 73 Impala
