Update on my hot rod firetruck project

It has been a while since I posted here. I guess it is time for an update on my 1947 Seagrave project.

A 906 cubic inch V-12 just wasn't quite big enough. I went out and bought something a little bigger. ...the same thing as in the Blastolene Special.... a 1,790 cubic inch, all aluminum, air cooled V-12 out of a Patton Tank. 810 hp in stock form.

I also found wheels and tires that I liked. 22.5 x 7.5 with 255/70/22.5 tires for the front (36" tall) and dual 24.5 x 8.25 with 285/75/24.5 tires (41.5" tall) on the rear

Here are some pics.

You know you can never have too much horsepower. Have you thought about a couple of turbos? What kinda trans are you planning on running? A six speed allison would be nice, less distracting when your trying to hold on to the wheel of that monster. Oh and what kinda brakes are you going to be running, they are working on air disk brakes now I hear.

Glad you found some tires that worked for ya.

John

Yeah. I've thought about turbos. Jay Leno's car is supposedly getting turbo'd by Gale Banks.

This thing is wide enough as just a longblock ...if I fab up tunnel rams, this thing is gonna be WIDE. Although, six 2 barrels per side would be cool.

I am also looking at turning the heads around so that the intake is on top. Some of the european tractor puller guys have done it. One has three 6-71 blowers inline.

Here is a photo chop I did when I first found out about the truck I ended up buying. .......Mine won't have ladders

While surfing for info, I found a couple of european tractor pullers with continentals. This one has the heads turned round backwards (intake on top) and three blowers mounted in-line

This one was more interesting to me. They got rid of the big gearbox/accessory drive thing on the front of the motor and found a new way to drive the cams, ignition, oil pump, fuel pump, and starter. Oh yeah, this one has turbos and the heads turned around.

Anybody with a machine shop want to cut a deal on labor to work on an interesting project?
