My 48 coupe has had the wings taken out. However power windows have been put in. The passengers side glass has been no problem but I am having one heck of a time getting everything adjusted so that the drivers glass works properly and doesn't crack the glass. It has had three new pieces of glass put in it but I think I have it adjusted now. One more piece of glass will know for sure. I think one of the biggest problems is when you take out the wing, the window glass has such a curve in it that there isn't a whole lot of glass to set in the channel when it's in the down position.

Hey zonk- when I did the 'J ,I used the manuals at first with the vent removed and the mechanism kept twisting- that's why I went electric. With the longer window it seemed like the crank needed to be moved forward to balance the window and of course the lower channel had to be lengthened. It was just easier to get the electric kit for me than to move the entire manual mechanism and figure balance. If you want to keep manuals would a later model car with a longer window possibly work? Like a full size 60's Chevy?? Just guessing...

I got this idea about using manual windows I know there is after market electric kits (probably what I'll end up doing) it would have to be a wide door with flat glass, didn't think about the curve of the glass and the window channel, seems like someone told me once a GEO door has a center post that pulls the glass up and down doesn't use the sissors action. ?
