upgrading steering column

I've got an '81 k-5 with the old style (like 70's) switches on the dash and only the turn signal switch on the column, but i put in a late 80's column with the lever to contral trun signals, wipers, and brights.

so I'm trying to find out what other people have done in this situation, on how to wire everything over to the new column?

any info or tips on the electrical would be appreciated

thanks, Mike

Not easy

This will not be an easy job. I recommend you get wiring diagrams for each car. Leave the connector in place at the bottom of the new column and buy the other side of that connector to use to run your wires to.

See if you can get that connector from a dealer of a higher end auto parts store such as NAPA.

From there it's following which wire goes where on each diagram and running the appropriate wire to the new connector. Hopefully the new connector will come with the pins that you can remove and install the wires to and I highly recommend soldering.
