Urethane Single Stage Paint/Primer

okay so i pretty much understand BC/CC stuff but im curious how the single stage stuff works...i helped paint my friend car with it but i cant really remember it was so long ago....

as for primer....do you still epoxy primer bare metal and can you spray over that with color or do you use Urethane primer instead and spray color over that?

as for the color....could you somewhat just spray it on thick and not have to worry about runs and stuff as much since you can color sand and buff it out?

single stage

I have had a few black cars with single stage, and several different colors of cars and trucks including black with clearcoat, and lacquer, I prefer single stage, it shines better, has less problems, and i think, (in my opinion) it is more durable.. check with your paint suppler for the best information, as they, hopefully, are up to date on the newest products and what their costumers prefer.. and what will work in your situation

Single stage to me shoots like the clear in the BC/CC in that one would like to lay it out slick wet and no runs..try and minimize sanding and buffing the best that you can..

There are limitations to the colors available in single stage compared to what one can do with BC/CC

As far as durabilty of the two I do not think there is a whole lot of difference when using the urethane based systems..

I have tried most all of it and now do what is known to work..

A car I did a while back was black. It was shot on the outside with BC/CC. I shot the roll cage and engine compartment with SS. I wasn't able to closely compare the look of the different paints because of the separation, but both looked good.

The SS does spray similar to the clear, but since the products were both SPI, and used the same activator, I think the SS is actually made with many of the same materials. I also didn't have to do any buffing with the SS on that project. As long as it is not a metalic, I understand that there is no problem if you need to sand and buff. There are problems with sanding and buffing if metalics are involved. That means, what you spray is what you get as far as finish.
