used roller rockers
Hey guys, have a couple questions for you. First, I installed a different camshaft in my 350, so will there be any issues with length using the old pushrods and rockers? If so, how much 'slack' is acceptable, or is there a way to measure the correct lenght needed? Also, I was wondering if it's ok to reuse roller rockers that have about 500 miles on them, but I don't know which spring they were originally on (machine shop just put them all together in a box). thanks for the help.

re: used roller rockers
What kind of rockers, as in who makes them? If its a QUALITY piece like Crane, Comp etc. then you might be ok. There is some real crap out there posing as "roller rockers." Are they 1.5 or 1.6?, I would try and get the info from your machine shop that sold them to you, if they don't know then pass.
Your camshaft instructions should tell you the length of push rod needed. Which cam did you use? .... lift and duration? And YES, you could have major issues, like valve spring coil bind to start with, the shouldn't be a problem just doesn't work when putting an engine together..... all this stuff needs to be checked before you fire it. |

re: used roller rockers
I saw a tool that was used on SPIKES horsepower tv show this last weekend that is for measuring push rod length. You put it in where your push rod would go then adjust it with your rocker on then take it out and measure it and call in your order. They should have this tool listed on the power block web sight or you could just call summit im sure they would know.

Summit sells them too. I made my own out of a couple old ones that I cut an inch out of and used a stud with a couple nuts on them. If you try to cut them with a hack saw; heat them and let them cool, that's some really tough alloy.

re: used roller rockers
they're crane 1.5 rollers, stamped steel. I had originally bought them for my 350 rebuild, then the engine seized (low oil) and i had it rebuilt. Now that I think about it, maybe I should go ahead and get new rockers, as there is some heat discoloration on the body. Only thing is there's no damage to the actual roller. What do you guys think? I originally used a Crane 2050 cam, .454 int/.480exh and now i have a Comp xe268-4 .479/.480 installed. Might as well be safe and get a pushrod checker.
