UV Stable Metal Flake Vinyl

I have a customer that is wanting Orange Metal Flake vinyl to be used in his truck here in Oklahoma. I've been told before that most of the Metal Flake vinyls available are not UV Stable and will fade with exposure to the sun.

Anyone know where i can purchase UV Stable Metal Flake vinyl, preferably in Orange?

Thanks,

Bobby

The only place I've ever seen orange glitter vinyl, also called sparkle vinyl, is here: CLICK HERE I don't know what this stuff is, but I doubt it is marine grade vinyl. You'll have to call them to find out.

Here's another place: CLICK HERE

They used to use this stuff in boats, but I haven't seen any marine grade glitter vinyl since the 70's, in any color. Naugahyde has a pattern called Zodiac, but there isn't anything close to orange.

http://www.futuratextiles.com/sw_polaris.php I am not sure about its UV resistance though. I have used the Zodiac Vinyl before and it's not that the color fades so much as the top layer of clear vinyl that buries the flake gets a little milky in appearance after a while. In a car that doesn't see a ton of sun exposure (eg. daily driver) I am not sure that I would worry so much.

I have seen this type of vinyl in boats, and the vinyl almost looked like it was burned. I think Gringo is right, I don't think it would be a big deal in a closed car, but I'd sure put something over the top of the rear seat if it sat in the sun.

I've used Vinyl Cote UV absorber on materials I haven't been able to talk clients out of. No complaints so far. Takes 3-4 cans to do two buckets and a bench.

Thanks for the info guys. I live in Oklahoma, so the Sun is a huge problem here. I'll look into that UV coating, it might come in handy on a lot of things. I just refuse to put out work that I consider inferior. When it looks like crap in 6 months, the customer is not going to explain to people that he was advised against the material. If I can't get this resolved and he won't budge, I may have to recommend someone else do his interior. =(

Thanks,

Bobby
