V-Belt codes

I am working on my 1955 2nd series Chevy truck. I am installing power steering and am trying to get the correct belt length for the PS pump. Seems that I used to be able to tell the length of a belt by its number. But I have forgotten. Can someone enlighten me?
I have a belt # 17485 13A1230 Does the 485 mean 48 1/2" in length and the 17 means 17/32 wide. And what does the 13A1230 mean? Dang I think I'm getting old.....

Used to be able to tell by the Gates No. They changed them so now you can only get close. Run a string around the pulley's. Belt's are measured on the inside BTW.

Sounds like a DAYCO belt, right?
Your assumption on the 17485 is correct IMHO.

13A1230 is a number that is used by Gates (and others) that similarly represents it's metric measurements.

Breaking the P/N down...
13 = 13mm wide (rounded)
A = Automotive
1230 = 1230mm (rounded to nearest 5) inside circumference.

Doing the math...
25.4mm = 1 inch
so 1230 / 25.4 = 48.425 inches
and 13 / 25.4 = 0.512 inches
... which roughly corresponds with the Dayco (Imperial)measurements.

metric

In Canada we use the metric system. It's really simple.
